Santa Lucija
St.Pius X Parish Church
Soon after WWII an area near Tarxien was developed into a housing estate and the church authorities immediately took steps to provide the locality with a church. The architects of this new temple were Italo Raniolo and Edgar Caruana Montalto who designed it in a Romanesque style. It is 53 meters long and 27 meters wide while the belfry is 26 meters high. The corner stone was laid on the 6th Nov 1966 and the church was completed on the 8th July 1969. From the 27th July 1969 it was dedicated to St.Pius X as a parish church. It was blessed by Archbishop Michael Gonzi on the 4th June 1972 and consecrated by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca on the 4th June 1992.
Provisional chapel made up of two garages until the parish church was ready. The population of nearby Tarxien gave this church a painting of St.Lucy done by Chev.Rafel Bonnici Cali'.

*The old church of St.Lucy which gave its name to the locality and the parish - Santa Lucija - is now actually in the territory of the parish of Ghaxaq.
